What is a Key Worker?

You might’ve heard of a Support Worker but what exactly is a Key Worker? At My Ability Pathway (MAP), a Key Worker is responsible for overseeing teams of support workers in our supported accommodation, and in the community. The day of a Key Worker is varied and never boring, one day you might spend on shift and another you might be performing administrative duties, or a combination of both.

A Key Worker manages all things involved with running a house such as grocery shopping, ordering consumables, keeping to a household budget and creating custom meal planners and individualised social/activity planners.

A Key Worker is a point of contact for our team members, participants and their families. We schedule outings, social visits and facilitate opportunities for participants to connect with family and friends.

We schedule medical appointments and liaise with allied health professionals on behalf of our participants and communicate vital information to the appropriate staff.

A Key Worker works closely with the Team Leader and Service Coordinator to identify staffing issues or areas of concern or improvement, to ensure that the needs of our participants are met daily, and continuous support is maintained through rostering team members.

The rest of our time may be spent following up reports submitted via the Safety Culture App, attending weekly meetings, approving timesheets, reviewing progress notes or training new team members.
