As MAP grows, our commitment to our clients never wavers. The quality service we value providing is a layered approach across our diverse, dynamic team and we are excited to introduce Sue Irving as our new Service Delivery Manager. Acting as the point-of-contact for our Disability Support clients, Sue brings a calm, engaged and empathetic approach to the role, with a subtle cheekiness that brightens our office.
Let’s get to know Sue a little better!
After being at home and the sole carer for my 9-year-old grandson (who has Autism) for the past 10 months, I thought it was time to start looking at options that would support my skill set and the role of being a carer.
Gaining the lived experience while working alongside allied health services and negotiating the NDIS has helped to fine tune skills that support my role.
MAP was recommended to me as a supportive workplace that would embrace my knowledge and skills, while supporting me with flexibility when needed. Since starting here, I have quickly felt that sense of belonging which sadly many workplaces do not have.
I commenced this journey when my father was diagnosed with Dementia in 1998, and my quest for knowledge kept going. I worked predominantly with children who had disabilities and then began growing and adapting my skill set to work with adults.
I look at the participants I work with and view them with the lens of ‘if that was my family member, would I be happy with the level of support they are receiving?’
Working in the disability sector I find rewarding, the role has so much scope to make a difference and to support participants to live their best lives. After months – or sometimes years – of capacity building, seeing someone achieve their goals is reward enough.
The MAP culture is how every workplace should model their approach! Having the ability to use my skills to add to the team has been encouraged and appreciated. The team at every level are valued and respected. MAP offers avenues for those who would like to advance their career, then supports them to succeed.
I believe this role is truly vital because it allows me to walk hand-in-hand with the participants we support, to understand their personal journeys and to discover what makes them uniquely special.
It is a privilege to witness their stories, to feel their struggles and share their triumphs, and to channel that understanding into the support we provide every day.
One thing I've learned and love to share is the incredible power of kindness. A simple act of kindness can brighten someone's day and create positivity that makes the workplace a better environment to be in. Be kind to those you work with, be kind to those you support – and most of all be kind to yourself.
Thank you, Sue! We’re excited to have you with us and can’t wait to see where your journey with MAP and our community leads.
