Happy Birthday everybody...............

On Friday, May 12th, the team at My Ability Pathway (MAP) came together with clients, staff, family and friends for a Birthday Party. Director Barb Lightburn told attendees, ‘Over the last few years, we have had lockdowns and isolation which stopped many people from being able to celebrate their birthday, so today we have come together to celebrate everybody’s birthday’.

A generous afternoon tea, drinks and Birthday Cake was shared amongst the thirty-plus birthday guests of honour!

“We love bringing people together to get out, enjoy the sunshine, mix and build social connections”, said Barb. "Being social staves off loneliness increases well-being, sharpens memory and cognitive skills, and creates a sense of happiness. MAP creates social opportunities and connections for all people, clients, carers, staff and family members. We love it," added Barb.

In addition to throwing birthday parties, MAP has recently opened a new SIL in the Barossa Valley, housing one person with staff support 24/7.

'We have been able to support a person with a disability to move out of the hospital and into a home they can call their own. They now live in an environment where they can be involved in their usual daily activities and engage in their community. We have an amazing team of dedicated, passionate people who provide support, so individuals have choice and control over their life," said Barb, "and we are always on the lookout for more people to join our team”.
